Preview
The Big Bash League 2022-23 is up and running and in the 17th match, Sydney Thunder will be up against Brisbane Heat. The Thunders have not got the best start as they have lost three out of four games played. Their only win came against Melbourne Stars in their first match of the season. On the other hand, Brisbane Heat have managed one win in three matches. The good thing for the Heat is that they won their last game after two consecutive losses. Now, it is to be seen if the Brisbane Heat continue their winning momentum or Sydney Thunder break their losing streak.
Pitch Report
The pitch at Sydney Showground is not an ideal batting pitch. The ball sticks to the surface and hitting through the line is not easy here. Meanwhile, bowlers get enough assistance from the pitch. The average first innings total here is 140 and the pitch deteriorates as the inning progresses.
Team Analysis
Sydney Thunder
Things are getting out of control for Sydney Thunder. While they started the season with a win over Melbourne Stars, the Chris Green-led team has lost three matches on the trot. In their last game against Adelaide Strikers, Thunder could not put on a good total and then conceded it with eight balls to spare. While Alex Hales and Oliver Davies tried to propel the team to a good total, the two batters did not get enough support from others. In the bowling department, Nathan McAndrew (2/25), Gurinder Sandhu (1/18), and Fazalhaq Farooqi (0/21) tried to stop the Strikers but Mattew Short was too determined. Now, with Brisbane Heat pitted against them, Thunder face a challenge to break their losing streak.

Brisbane Heat
Brisbane Heat did not get the desired start as they lost their first two games. But the Heat got their first win of the season as they beat Adelaide Strikers in their third match. Sam Billings and Max Bryant played a gem of an innings to propel the team to an above-par total. While Bryant scored a brisk 46 off just 29 balls, Billings scored a well-paced 79 (off 48 balls). The bowlers did the rest of the task as they stopped Strikers six short of their total. Mark Steketee bagged four wickets to derail the Strikers’ chase while Michael Neser scalped two wickets. James Bazley and Ross Whiteley also bagged a wicket each.
