After defeating Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool 4-3 in the FA Cup quarter-final on March 16, Manchester United dropped two crucial points against Brentford after playing a 1-1 draw in the Premier League clash. The game ended with the home side scoring a late equaliser to deny three points to the Red Devils, however, the Bees forward Neal Maupay took a sly dig at the United midfielder Scott McTominay on social media.
Both Man United and Brentford scored goals in the stoppage time of the second half at the Gtech Community Stadium on Saturday as Mason Mount's first goal for the club was equalised by the home side's centre-back Kristoffer Ajer in the ninth minute of the second-half stoppage time.
Maupay, who replaced midfielder Mads Roerslev in the 86th minute, was involved in an on-field altercation with Man United midfielder Scott McTominay after the home side scored an equaliser. Both Maupay and McTominay were shown a yellow card, however, the French striker continued the battle on social media.
The 27-year-old Maupay took to his official X (formerly Twitter) handle and shared a picture from the incident, where the Scottish international can be seen pulling Maupay's shirt. The Brentford forward captioned, "This fan was desperate for my shirt 😂"
With this 1-1 draw, Manchester United are now 11 and eight points behind the fourth and fifth-placed Premier League sides, Aston Villa and Tottenham, who won their respective previous fixtures. The Red Devils might have ended their Champions League qualification chances with a draw.
In the Premier League 2023-24, the 15-placed Brentford will next host Brighton and Hove Albion on Wednesday while Man United are scheduled to travel to Stamford Bridge to face Chelsea on Thursday.
