Brentford's new manager Keith Andrews has announced that the forward Yoane Wissa will be missing the upcoming Premier League opening match against Nottingham Forest. This decision comes after the uncertainty surrounding Wissa's availability for the club after they rejected Newcastle United's £25 million plus £5 million in add-ons offer for him. The 28-year-old has been strongly linked with a summer departure from the Gtech Community Stadium, with Newcastle United showing significant interest. However, many reports indicate that Wissa is keen on making the move, though Brentford isn't much interested in selling any other player this summer.

Andrews, who succeeded Thomas Frank at Brentford, has acknowledged that Wissa is “not in that space” to be considered for their opening match against Nottingham Forest. While speaking to the press, Andrews said, “I have decided that he is not (available). It has been a very disrupted pre-season, and the interest in Yoane is very clear. As head coach, I want Yoane to be in the building and be a part of the first team and the squad. But I am very understanding of his situation.”

Yoane Wissa threatens by refusing to play for Bees

After receiving an offer from Newcastle United, Yoane Wissa left Brentford’s training camp in Portugal and reportedly threatened to refuse playing for the Bees if his move to St James’ Park was blocked. Meanwhile, Andrews stressed the need to focus on players who are ready for the match. Wissa, who arrived at Brentford from Lorient in August 2021, played a key role in their success last season. He scored 19 Premier League goals and helped the Bees secure a 10th-place finish.

Brentford have seen forward Bryan Mbeumo join Manchester United for £71 million, midfielder Christian Norgaard move to Arsenal, and goalkeeper Mark Flekken sign for Bayer Leverkusen. For arrivals, Brentford signed England midfielder Jordan Henderson, Republic of Ireland goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher, and Dutch attacking midfielder Antoni Milambo.
