Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz pipped Red Bull’s Max Verstappen by 0.72s in the Qualifying race for the British Grand Prix 2022 to secure pole position. Sainz finished Q3 with timing of 1:40.983. He was accompanied by teammate Charles Leclerc, Sergio Perez, and Lewis Hamilton in the top 5. While Max Verstappen finished in the second position, Leclerc finished third. Red Bull’s Sergio Perez and Mercedes' Lewis Hamilton took the fourth and fifth positions respectively.

Meanwhile, Sergio Perez finished in P4 in the second Red Bull, ahead of the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton, with McLaren Mercedes' Lando Norris P6, as Fernando Alonso and George Russell rounded out the top eight. Zhou Guanyu was P9, while Nicholas Latifi survived a scary off at Turn 1 to take P10, on his first-ever Q3 appearance.

Pierre Gasly finished in P11 for AlphaTauri, ahead of the second Alfa Romeo of Valtteri Bottas and Gasly’s own teammate Yuki Tsunoda, with Daniel Ricciardo and Esteban Ocon having fallen foul of worsening conditions in Q2 and failing to make it out, taking P14 and P15.

Failing to make it out of Q1, meanwhile, Alex Albon was P16 – despite being equipped with Williams’ extensive upgrade package, which Latifi didn’t have – while both Haas and Aston Martins went out in the first segment too, the order Kevin Magnussen in P17, ahead of Sebastian Vettel, Mick Schumacher, and Lance Stroll.

Verstappen eyes podium finish at British GP

Having secured a P2 finish at the Qualifying race of British GP 2022, Red Bull's Max Verstappen will eye another podium finish in the F1 2022 calendar. The 24-year-old is already leading the World Championships and if he manages to get another P1, he will further extend his lead over teammate Sergio Perez.

However, racing at the Silverstone circuit won't be easy considering its unpredictability. Lewis Hamilton, the local boy, will be more eager to race on Sunday although he finished in the fifth position in the Qualifying race.
