Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz made the most of his maiden pole position start at the main race of the British Grand Prix 2022 as he finished at the top of the podium. The Spaniard pipped Sergio Perez and Lewis Hamilton to claim the top finish in his 150th Grand Prix. Meanwhile, Sergio Perez saved the day for Red Bull with a P2 finish after his teammate Max Verstappen failed to make it into the top five.

The local boy, Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton could only manage a P3 finish despite trying desperately to go past Carlos Sainz on multiple occasions. Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and Alpine’s Fernando Alonso finished in the fourth and fifth positions respectively. Meanwhile, World Championship leader Max Verstappen managed a P7 finish. Notably, Verstappen suffered some form of damage that hobbled his Red Bull during Lap 20.

McLaren's Lando Norris finished in between Verstappen and Alonso, in P6. Meanwhile, Aston Martin's Sebastian Vettel and Haas's Kevin Magnussen rounded out the top 10, with Lance Stroll 11th in the second Aston Martin, ahead of Williams' Nicholas Latifi, McLaren's Daniel Ricciardo, and AlphaTauri's Yuki Tsunoda. Haas' Mick Schumacher scored his first points in F1 after finishing in P8.

I don't know what to say: Carlos Sainz

After winning his maiden F1 race, Spaniard Carlos Sainz was more than elated. The Ferrari driver was short of words while reacting to his win. "I don't know what to say," said a beaming Sainz. "It is amazing. My first win in Formula One on my 150th race and for Ferrari at Silverstone! It's amazing."

Meanwhile, Perez, who recovered from 17th, to take the flag by 3.7 seconds in front of a record 142,000 crowd at the high-speed Silverstone circuit was proud of the comeback he made. "It was a great comeback," he said. "We never gave up and we kept pushing. We kept trying. It was epic in some of those final laps."
