Indian pacers Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammad Shami will reportedly play in rotation during the five-match Test series against England in 2024. Bumrah remained out of action for almost a year after suffering a back injury and made his comeback before the World Cup 2023, and is fit to make his comeback to red-ball cricket. The fast bowler will also lead the Indian bowling attack during the two-Test series in South Africa.

A BCCI source told the Times of India, “Bumrah is fighting fit and results were there for everyone to see. He is back at his peak fitness and is itching to play the Test matches. With Bumrah and Shami, you need to use them based on what is the priority format at a given time. Bumrah will certainly play in the T20 World Cup if all goes well.”

Not only this, but, India’s ODI and Test captain Rohit Sharma is unlikely to play in the shortest format anymore. The reports further state that Sharma discussed with the BCCI officials before the onset of the recently concluded ODI World Cup. Notably, Rohit hasn’t played any T20I match after India’s T20 World Cup semi-final exit in November 2022. Hardik Pandya has mostly led India in the shortest format since then.

A senior BCCI official told PTI, “It is not a new development. Rohit hasn't played any T201s in past one year as the focus was on ODI World Cup. He had extensive discussions with chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar in this regard. He has himself volunteered to stay away from T201s. It has completely been Rohit's call.”
