After making history at the Badminton Asia Championship 2023, India’s men’s doubles duo Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty have regained the world number five spot in the rankings. They displaced China’s Liu Yu Chen and Ou Xuan Yi. The star duo won a gold medal for India in the doubles category in the Asian Games for the first time since 1965. Satwik and Chirag defeated the Malaysian combination of Ong Yew Sin and Teo Ee Yi 16-21, 21-17, 21-19 in a nail-biting final.

MR Arjun and Dhruv Kapila also jumped four spots to reach world no. 23, their career-high being 19. The pair reached the quarterfinals of the Orleans Masters earlier in April 2023. The emerging duo of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand rose two spots to reach world no. 17 after their impressive semifinal at the All-England Open in March 2023.

In men’s singles, HS Prannoy was steady at the ninth spot, while Kidambi Srikanth and Lakshya Sen rose up to 22nd and 23rd spot, respectively. Mithun Manjunath jumped five positions to reach world no. 41. In the women’s singles, PV Sindhu slipped to world no. 12 after a disappointing quarterfinal exit at the Asia leg of tournaments, while Tanya Hemanth moved up to the 55th spot. The mixed doubles pair of Sumeeth Reddy and Ashwini Ponappa moved up 23 places to world no 67.
