With the Indian cricket team currently taking on England in a five-match Test series of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, the Shubman Gill-led side are currently missing the experienced pace strength with Mohammed Shami still recovering. While he continues to remain on the sidelines, he is facing a significant legal battle with his estranged wife, Hasin Jahan.

It is to be noted that Mohammed Shami tied a knot with a former model and cheerleader of the three-time IPL champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Hasin Jahan in 2014. The couple welcomed a daughter in 2015. With things going smooth, their relationship took a u-turn when Jahan accused the Indian cricketer of domestic violence, dowry harassment and match-fixing in 2018. Since then, the couple have been living separately with the Indian cricketer fighting a legal battle.

Mohammed Shami ordered to pay INR 4 Lakh per month alimony to ex-wife

While the court battle continues, in a latest move, the Calcutta High Court on Tuesday, July 1 ordered the Indian pacer to pay monthly alimony worth INR 4 Lakh to his estranged wife. The order which was issued by Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee, directs Shami to pay INR 1.5 Lakh per month for Hasin Jahan’s personal maintenance and INR 2.5 Lakh for the care of his daughter.

“In my considered opinion, a sum of INR 1,50,000/- per month to the petitioner no.1 (wife) and INR 2,50,000/- to her daughter would be just fair and reasonable to ensure financial stability for both the petitioners,” the court in its order on Tuesday, July 1 stated, as quoted by Hindustan Times.

Furthermore, as per the recent developments, the court also added that Shami may voluntarily contribute additional amount towards his daughter’s education or other future needs. The decision from the court comes after Jahan appealed against a 2018 order which directed Shami to pay INR 50,000 and additional INR 80,000 for the care and maintenance of the two.
