The National Cricket Academy (NCA) reportedly scheduled a practice match for Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul, either on Saturday, August 12 or Sunday, August 13. As per the reports, the final call on the availability of Rahul for the forthcoming Asia Cup 2023 would be made by his performance in the match.
The 31-year-old cricketer suffered an injury on his right thigh on May 1 during a game between Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Indian Premier League 2023. The Karnataka-born cricketer underwent surgery for the same in London and has been undergoing rehabilitation in the National Cricket Academy (NCA), Bengaluru.
Though Rahul has shown positive updates on his recovery, a report by The Telegraph suggested that the cricketer’s performance in the 50-over practice match will decide his fate for the forthcoming marquee event. The practice match is likely to assess how he would come across in a game before the selectors consider his name for the tournament.
Speaking of the upcoming tournament, the 2023 edition of the Asia Cup is scheduled to commence on August 30. The Indian side will open their campaign on September 2 in a game against the arch-rivals, Pakistan. India’s neighbouring countries Pakistan and Sri Lanka are set to jointly host the tournament.
