Chelsea have confirmed the completion of defender Mamodou Sarr’s signing from their partner club Strasbourg, securing an eight-year deal for him worth £12 million on Monday, June 9. Since the player transfer happened before June 10, Mamadou Sarr will be eligible to play for Chelsea in the FIFA Club World Cup 2025, set to begin on June 14 in the United States of America.

In the recently concluded 2024-25 season, Mamadou Sarr, who is just 19 years of age, played 28 matches for Strasbourg, playing a role in the team’s seventh place finish in the Ligue 1 in France, which secured them a place in the Conference League play-offs. Since Strasbourg are owned by Todd Boehly and Clearlake Capital under BlueCo just like Chelsea, the transfer of the teenage sensation was agreed upon in January before they completed it now.

Chelsea signed their fourth player in Mamadou Sarr in summer transfer window already

This is already the fourth new player signed by Chelsea at the start of the summer transfer window, securing deals for Liam Delap from Ipswich Town (£30 million), Dario Essugo from Sporting Lisbon (£18 million), and Estevao from Palmeiras (£29 million). With a healthy Profit and Sustainability (PSR) standing for Chelsea in the current times, it is likely that they are going to pursue more player signings in the remainder of the summer.

The aforementioned inclusion of players could come in really handy for Chelsea during the upcoming Club World Cup campaign in the USA. Their first match in the competition for the North London club in Group D will be against American club LAFC on June 16 before they take on Brazil’s Flamengo on June 20, following which Tunisia’s champions ES Tunis will be playing against them on June 25.
