In recent developments around the transfer saga of Liam Delap, multiple sources have confirmed that Delap is set to join Chelsea for the upcoming 2025/26 season. Delap has been on the radar for multiple clubs after moving to Ipswich Town from Manchester City’s youth ranks and his performances this season especially have raised a few extra eyebrows. In 40 games across all competitions, Delap has scored 12 goals and provided 2 assists for Ipswich.

Chelsea have reportedly triggered the 30-million-pound release clause attached to the English centre-forward and have convinced him to join Enzo Maresca’s squad. While Manchester City did have a buy-back option for Delap, it is understood that they will not execute that option as they already have multiple good players to play in the centre-forward position. Chelsea have therefore seized the opportunity to bag the 22-year-old lad and will hope to see him as a part of their long-term vision for the club.

Cole Palmer and Enzo Maresca played big role in convincing Delap

It is also being reported that Delap was convinced of the idea of joining Chelsea due to the presence of his former Man City teammate Cole Palmer. The two young Englishmen have spent time together in Manchester City’s youth academy before going their own ways. Another important factor was for Delap was Enzo Maresca’s presence at the helm at Stamford Bridge.

Maresca has transformed the team this season, leading them to a recent cup glory in the UEFA Conference League final and has also had a good league season ensuring that Chelsea earn a spot in the upcoming UEFA Champions League. His concrete involvement in the club’s transfer strategy has seen the Italian tactician also push the management to make a move on signing Delap.
