India and Kolkata Knight Riders opener Shubman Gill has not been at his best with the bat for the franchise in the ongoing Indian Premier League edition. Gill has managed to score only 80 runs from five outings and also failed to provide solid starts at the top of the order. After the loss against Rajasthan Royals in match 18 of the tournament, Kolkata Knight Riders chief mentor David Hussey has backed out of form Shubman Gill, mentioning that class is permanent. Against Rajasthan Royals, Gill was not in good touch with the bat again, scoring only 11 runs off 19 deliveries which made KKR score only 25 runs in the first six overs of the match.

Gill will finish as leading run-getter of IPL 2021: David Hussey

“Well, he’s a star player. That’s one thing. I do know that he took the Test arena by storm in Australia. The way he works on his game, in the nets, he’s very specific. He has a great work ethic. So, all I can say is probably that form will come and go. But classes are always permanent. He’s one class individual off the field, but also an exceptionally talented player on the field. Mark my words, I think he would be one of the highest-scoring batsmen by the end of the tournament. He is an absolute class act,” David Hussey said at the post-match press conference.

Batsmen lacked intent, we were 40 runs short': Eoin Morgan

Meanwhile, KKR captain Eoin Morgan was left disappointed after a six-wicket defeat against Rajasthan Royals on Saturday. Morgan blamed "lack of intent" from the KKR batsmen as the reason behind their fourth straight loss in IPL 2021. "We were behind the game right from the get-go. RR adapted to the pitch much better," said Morgan in the post-match presentation. Morgan himself was run out without facing a ball.
