The FIFA World Cup is perhaps one of the biggest sporting events across the world. Held once in every four years, this massive tournament goes beyond just football and unites people from across the world. It’s a festival celebrated to share the love people have towards this sport. The upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup is set to happen in North America as it will be co-hosted by the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Recently, the FIFA Commercial and Media partners convention was held in Dallas, USA to discuss some of the plans for this upcoming event. A lot of important stakeholders from FIFA including FIFA president Gianni Infantino were present at the event.

Amongst all the discussions held at the event, there has been one major news regarding the introduction of a first-ever half-time show to be held at the 2026 FIFA World Cup final. It is also understood that popular British rock-pop band Coldplay will be working with FIFA to finalize the list of artists who will perform at this event.

This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup: FIFA president Gianni Infantino

The FIFA president confirmed the news via an Instagram post where he announced the introduction of this half-time show. He said, “This will be a historic moment for the FIFA World Cup and a show befitting the biggest sporting event in the world.” This trend can already be seen in the USA with a half-time show being held in the NFL Super Bowl Championship match. Big artists like Coldplay, Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar etc., have had performances in this event.

While there has been a pre-match entertainment show being held at the FIFA World Cup, this half-time show will be the first of its kind. Co-incidentally the first ever pre-match entertainment show in a FIFA World Cup was also held in the United States during the 1994 FIFA World Cup. Since then the trend has continued with big artists taking the stage before these massive football matches.
