India head coach Gautam Gambhir exhibited his fiery side again when he appeared in ABP News ‘India At 2047’ Summit on May 6. Gambhir, who joined Team India as head coach in July 2024, has done a fine job as a white-ball coach but struggled to extract desired results in Test cricket. Former India opener Sunil Gavaskar has aimed at Gambhir on multiple occasions. From India’s defeat at the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 to the 43-year-old receiving prize money for guiding India to the Champions Trophy 2025, Gavaskar has berated Gambhir’s actions frequently.

Showing his relentless side at the summit, Gambhir didn’t take Gavaskar’s name but expressed his views regarding the World Cup 1983 winner’s comment on the Champions Trophy prize money received by the 43-year-old. “The prize money that I got in the Champions Trophy. I don't need to tell this country where I left the money and where I invested it. But this country should know that such people have been working in the country as NRIs for so many years. They earn money from the country and take it abroad. I don't do security checks or immigration at 11:55," said Gambhir.

Gautam Gambhir will look to prove himself as Test coach in the upcoming England series

Gautam Gambhir’s next challenge is waiting in England, where the India coach will be expected to lead the side to a series win in the five-match Test competition to be held from June 20 to August 4. On English soil, Team India haven’t won any red-ball series for the last 18 years.

However, under Rohit Sharma’s captaincy and Gambhir’s coaching, the two-time World Test Championship (WTC) finalists will be striving to script history in the upcoming English summer. Before hosting India, England will take on Zimbabwe in a Test match, set to be played at Trent Bridge from May 22.
