Cristiano Ronaldo, the Portugal captain, led his team to their second UEFA Nations League title, defeating Spain in the final of the tournament 5-3 on penalties after the scores were leveled 2-2 at the end of extra-time. The 40-year-old was left in tears after a roller-coaster night which saw him score the equaliser in the second half for his team before getting subbed off due to injury just before the end of regulation time, handing over the captaincy armband to Bruno Fernandes.

While Cristiano Ronaldo couldn’t be a part of the penalty shootout, he did play a key role on the sidelines, helping get the best of his teammates in the crunch moments of the match at the Allianz Arena in Munich. In the post-match interview after lifting the UEFA Nations League 2025 trophy, Cristiano Ronaldo addressed his injury, and said, as per Tribal Football, “I'd already felt it in the warm-up, it had been there for a while. But for the national team, if I had to break my leg, I would. It's a title, I had to play and I gave it my all, I went as far as I could. I helped out with a goal.”

When the question around his future in club football was posed, Cristiano Ronaldo responded, “My future? Basically nothing is gonna change. Staying at Al-Nassr? Yea”. With the Portuguese footballing superstar confirming his stay at the Saudi Arabian club, he is expected to sign a contract extension with them since his current deal with them runs out at the end of the ongoing month of June.

I've won a lot of titles, but there's nothing better than winning for Portugal: Cristiano Ronaldo

During the same interview, Cristiano Ronaldo also spoke about what it means to him to win a trophy for his country Portugal. He remarked, “A lot of joy. Firstly for this generation, it deserved a title. For the families, I had mine here... Winning for Portugal is very special. I've won a lot of titles, but there's nothing better than winning for Portugal. The tears and the fulfilment.”

Moreover, just a few days ago, Cristiano Ronaldo had confirmed his intention to not be a part of the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup after several participating clubs came calling to him for a potential deal to be worked out, which he decided not to pursue.
