Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bowling coach Eric Simons has blamed batters for his team’s terrible Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 campaign. In a match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 30, the Yellow Army registered a four-wicket defeat and became the first team to get knocked out of the marquee T20 event. Currently, they are at the bottom of the points tally with only two wins and eight losses in their 10 outings. This year, Chennai’s batting hasn’t performed as per its reputation. In this tournament, their batting unit has come under fierce criticism on multiple instances for its underwhelming shows.
In the latest development, CSK's bowling coach Simons also admitted that his team needs to work in the batting department. “We have been good at taking wickets, but as a team in our batting, there are a few areas where we need to find and to be more accurate around and what we need to do,” said Simons said at the press conference following the defeat against Punjab.
CSK will play for pride in their next four contests
As CSK are out of the playoffs contention, they will now play their remaining four matches for pride. In 18 years of IPL history, they haven’t ended their season at the bottom of the points table. The Yellow Army will look to play the remainder of the tournament aggressively to avoid recording the humiliating feat to their name.
CSK will next take on table-toppers Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 3. Both teams will play against each other for the second time in this tournament. Previously, RCB beat CSK by 50 runs at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on March 28 and won their first game in Chennai for the first time since 2008.
