Chennai Super Kings (CSK) haven’t played as per their reputation in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 and their underwhelming performance has now led them to the point where they are highly likely to end their campaign at the bottom of the points table. If this happens, it will be the first instance when the Yellow Army will conclude their league season as the worst-performing side. In their penultimate clash against Rajasthan Royals (RR), CSK suffered a crushing six-wicket defeat at Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on May 20. Following another heavy defeat, when CSK head coach Stephen Fleming attended a press conference, he admitted that his team haven’t played quality cricket and deserve to hold the bottom spot on the tally.
"No, we don't obviously like being down here, but it's not a motivation. We wanted just a good performance. We're trying to string some performances together. The aim was two good performances (in last two matches). Now it'll be one good one to finish. It's probably fitting that we're at the bottom. We've played that type of cricket, so you can't hide away from it," said Fleming in the post-match conference. However, the New Zealander also assured that his team will comeback strongly next year. "Our order is not right at this stage, and that is something that we are always looking to reshuffle. We've got some strong ideas for next year, so all those facets are covered," Fleming further added.
CSK will look beat Gujarat Titans to end IPL 2025 campaign on a positive note
MS Dhoni's CSK will endeavour to finish their journey in the competition on a positive note by winning their last contest against the table-toppers Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad on May 25. In this tournament, both teams will collide against each other for the first time.
Talking about their head-to-head record, both teams have faced each other on seven instances with Gujarat emerging triumphant four times while CSK bagging three wins. In their last meeting in May 2024 at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium, Titans defended a score of 231 runs successfully and clinched a convincing 35-run win.
