Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have displayed another disastrous batting show in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. Against defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, MS Dhoni went out for the toss for Chennai but lost against his counterpart Ajinkya Rahane. In the crucial game, the Yellow Army lost their openers Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra within the powerplay overs. In the crunch situation, Rahul Tripathi and Vijay Shankar were expected to stand tall against KKR bowlers but both felt pressure and produced lethargic innings.
Tripathi went back to the dugout after accumulating 16 runs off 22 balls while Shankar consumed 21 balls but scored only 29. After the departure of both batters, no player could amass runs in double digits, except for Shivam Dube. MS Dhoni, who came to bat at nine, also fell against Sunil Narine after scoring only one off four. After completing their 20-over quota, Chennai could hoard only 103/9. Noting CSK’s egregious batting performance, netizen on X haven’t shown mercy on MS Dhoni and his men. “CSK's batting has been a torture in this season,” wrote a user named John’s on X.
KKR’s spin-trio wreaks havoc on the hosts
Kolkata spinners Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy stepped up in the big game and bagged five wickets together. Narine led the charge from the front and got rid of Rahul Tripathi, Ravindra Jadeja, and Dhoni. On the other hand, Chakravarthy trapped Vijay Shankar and Deepak Hooda.
Moeen Ali came as a silent killer as he bowled a thrifty spell for the visitors. Former England all-rounder picked up 1/20 figures in his four overs. Ali launched the onslaught for KKR, getting the better of Devon Conway in the fourth over of the match.
