In a surprising turn of events, reports have started to emerge claiming that Olympic medallist PV Sindhu's RT-PCR test results showed some deviation, due to which she has been asked to stay in isolation by the CWG authorities

Notably, 10-member badminton contingent had left for Birmingham in the wee hours of July 25 from Hyderabad and upon arrival every player went through RT-PCR test. As per sources, Sindhu's test result had some "invariability" and she has been put under observation. Reports further revealed that the top-notch badminton player was told to isolate herself till the time her second test result came. Much to everyone's relief, the result turned out be negative and Sindhu was allowed to check at the Games Village on Tuesday.

According to rules, athletes will need to undergo an RT-PCR test for COVID-19 72 hours prior to their arrival in the UK. There was another round of testing upon their arrival in Birmingham. Sources close to the development informed that due to this the announcement of the name for India's flagbearer was delayed by the Indian Olympic Association (IOA).

The IOA on Tuesday announced PV Sindhu and men's hockey team captain, Manpreet Singh, as the two flagbearer for Commonwealth Games' opening ceremony on Thursday (28 July). Earlier, IOA also issued an advisory for the 321-member strong Indian contingent not to spend much time in public places in Birmingham because of COVID-19 threat. "The players have been instructed to keep public interaction to a minimum and take safety precautions wherever needed," the advisory read.
