Chennai Super Kings put up a dominant show on Friday to defeat Kolkata Knight Riders by 27 runs in the final of IPL 2021. The win takes CSK's overall tally to 4th title and they are just one short of Mumbai Indians' record of lifting the trophy most number of times.
Talking about the game on Friday, after getting an invitation to bat first, the MS Dhoni-led side posted a mammoth total of 192/3, thanks to a great knock of 86 off 59 from Faf du Plessis. His innings included 7 fours and 3 sixes. The batter along with Ruturaj Gaikwad stitched a 61-run stand for the opening wicket before the likes of Robin Uthappa (31 off 15) and Moeen Ali (37* off 20) could also capitalise on it to help CSK reach a good total. Sunil Narine was the best bowler from the KKR camp with figures of 2/26, while Lockie Ferguson conceded most runs - 56 in 4 overs.
In return, CSK bowlers did a commendable job to restrict KKR to 165/9 despite fifties from Shubman Gill (51) and Venkatesh Iyer (50). The two batters put up a 91-run stand for the first wicket and, for a while, seemed to take the game away from CSK, but the bowlers of the Yellow Army made a splendid comeback to eventually win the game by 27 runs.
