Darwin Nunez, the Uruguayan striker, is reportedly expected to leave Liverpool in the upcoming summer transfer window with the Merseyside club not changing its plan about his future. The 25-year-old, for whom Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr had offered a deal in January, were turned down by Liverpool, but now, they are considering options to sell him in the summer, while the player himself is open to a new chapter in his career.

In the ongoing 2024-25 season, Darwin Nunez has made 42 appearances for Liverpool, scoring just seven goals and providing seven assists, which is far from what manager Arne Slot would have anticipated from him. Although Liverpool have a commanding 13-point lead in the Premier League with six matches remaining in the season, they were unable to win any other trophy in three other competitions, and Darwin Nunez’s performances have played a slight part in it.

Darwin Nunez is open to new chapter after impending Liverpool departure

As per the latest post on the official X account of Italian sports journalist Fabrizio Romano, Liverpool had made a decision two months ago to let Darwin Nunez go in the summer, and they are going to stick by it. He wrote, “The plan is clear since February and it hasn’t changed: Darwin Nunez, expected to leave Liverpool in the summer. After offer turned down by the club in January from Al-Nassr, all options will be considered in the upcoming months. Darwin, also open to new chapter.”

Moreover, it was recently mentioned that Arne Slot had dropped Darwin Nunez from the West Ham United match in the Premier League due to a training ground incident involving him with a member of Liverpool’s coaching staff. But, in his recent press conference, the Liverpool manager refuted those claims by saying that Darwin Nunez wasn’t feeling himself the day before the match, and he wasn’t a part of the team the day after either, which is why he wasn’t on the bench.
