T he five-time champions Mumbai Indians hosted the reigning champions Chennai Super Kings in what is looked up to as the El Classico in Indian Premier League. The two top sides locked horns in the solitary match scheduled to be played in the 2024 edition of the IPL at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday, April 14.

However, it was Hardik Pandya who won the toss and invited the visitors to bat first, his side could not chase the 207-run target and succumbed to a 20-run loss. While it was a 40-ball 69 from CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad that helped the side to a good start, Shivam Dube’s 38-ball 66* along with a quick cameo from MS Dhoni helped them put a competitive total on the board.

In pursuit of the 207-run target, Ishan Kishan and Rohit Sharma proceeded with the MI inning. Apart from Rohit Sharma, who played an unbeaten 105-run knock, none of the other MI batters failed to make a mark and fell like pack of cards. The hosts eventually fell short by 20 runs as they were restricted to 186/6 in their stipulated 20 overs.

Soon after MI’s fourth loss in IPL 2024, Rohit Sharma, who played a brilliant centurion knock, had a tough walk back to the pavilion. In the videos going viral on social media, the 36-year-old looked disappointed as he took the long walk, skipping the customary handshakes.
