A day after the five-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) signed Sridharan Sriram as assistant bowling coach ahead of the 2025 edition, the Delhi Capitals (DC) have also roped in former England white-ball coach Matthew Mott as their assistant coach.
At DC, Mott will be seen assisting former India cricketer Hemang Badani, who replaced former Australia cricketer and one of the greats of the game Ricky Ponting as the side’s head coach. The Australia will be joined by Director of Cricket Venugopal Rao and bowling coach Munaf Patel in the DC support staff.
Matthew Mott to serve as assistant coach at Delhi Capitals
The 51-year-old is not new in the IPL setup as he previously worked with the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as assistant coach during John Buchanan’s leadership in 2008 and 2009. However, he was last seen leading England’s men’s white-ball team, even during their 2022 T20 World Cup triumph.
After ending his stint in the English setup in July 2023, he joined Big Bash League (BBL) franchise Sydney Sixers as assistant coach in a three-year contract. With his expertise, the Delhi Capitals will hope to get their first IPL title to their name, especially seeing the notable achievements of Mott which includes Australia women’s World Cup wins.
