India’s campaign at T20 World Cup 2022 ended with a heartbreaking defeat in the semifinals against England. The Men in Blue were completely outplayed by Jos Buttler’s England. The Three Lions thrashed India by ten wickets to knock them out of the tournament. Abysmal is the right word to describe India’s performance in a knockout game. With this loss, India’s quest for a second T20 World Cup title was prolonged.

This also left fans back in the country furious. Everyone slammed the senior players for not stepping up to the challenge. Meanwhile, Atul Wassan took a dig at these star cricketers saying that they will move on and will be superstars despite this humiliating loss. The former Indian pacer said that these cricketers have been rewarded more than they deserved.

"The threshold for satisfaction has gotten really low. Despite losing, these players will be superstars. They've been rewarded a lot more for a lot less, facile wins. On IPL wins, they have become superstars. If a player performs well in a bilateral series, he is given four contracts. They think that even if they lose the World Cup, nothing is lost. Life goes on," Wassan said on ABP News.

"All this fame that surrounds an Indian cricketer should be categorised. You need to understand that a lot of this is due to fans and the media. That we praise them so much for trivial achievements in bilateral series, players feel they have achieved everything. We haven't won one ICC tournament in 9 years. If you pick the top 15 cricket stars in the world, 10 will be Indians - be it in terms of endorsements, name or fame - but without anything. The trophy cabinet is empty at the end of the day," Wassan added.

Notably, India will fly to New Zealand right after the T20 World Cup. While most of the senior players will be rested, Hardik Pandya and Shikhar Dhawan will be leading the teams in T20Is and ODIs.
