In a huge blow, the Bangladesh cricket team could head to the T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean and the USA without their top fast bowler Ebadot Hossain. The 29-year-old, who had undergone left knee surgery earlier this year after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus injury, reportedly won’t be fit for the T20 showpiece event next summer.

The injury for Ebadot Hossain happened during Bangladesh’s three-match ODI series against Afghanistan in July of this year, which the visitors won by 2-1. Since then, he has missed two major international cricket tournaments, including the ACC Asia Cup 2023 and the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023, where the Bangladesh cricket team felt his absence.

Minhajul Abedin, the Chief Selector of Bangladesh, spoke about the road to recovery for Ebadot Hossain after his ACL reconstruction and meniscal repair surgery. He was quoted as saying to the reporters as per The Business Standard, “Ebadot [Hossain] will probably start [playing] from next season. That means he will return from August-September through domestic cricket.”

After stating that Ebadot Hossain might start playing competitive cricket next season in 2024, Minhajul Abedin remarked the following about his progression, “According to the updated information that we have, he cannot return before that. We cannot confirm without the final medical report.”
