20- year-old tennis star Emma Raducana on Tuesday (29 November) received the Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE). The No. 1 ranked British tennis player was honoured for her services in the sport.

Emma, who became the first British woman to win a Grand Slam singles title was bestowed with this honour by King Charles III at the Windsor Castle. The 20-year-old beat Canada’s Leylah Fernandez to lift her maiden Grand Slam title at the US Open. With this win, she became the first ever qualifier to win the Grand Slam.

“It’s been great to receive my honour today from his Majesty the King. I feel extremely grateful”, Raducanu said in a statement after receiving the honour.

Notably, the Brit’s 2022 season came to an early end as she was forced to withdraw from the Transylvania Open with a wrist injury. She failed to recover in time for the BJK Cup Finals and later announced her withdrawal from the same. However, she is set to make her return at the Australia Open, which starts early next year.
