Former US Open winners Emma Raducano and Dominic Thiem have received wild card entries for the upcoming Miami Open 2023. The tournament is set to kick off on March 21 at the Hard Rock Stadium.

The Miami Open is one half of the “Sunshine Double,” which will follow Indian Wells and the third WTA 1000 event of the year. Raducanu won at Flushing Meadows in 2021 and also got the wild card entry for next week’s event in Indian Wells after an injury-ridden season.

The British number one has been out of action since injuring her ankle at the Australian Open. After this injury, she was forced out of the WTA250 event in Austin after contracting tonsillitis. Similarly, Thiem, the winner of the 2020 US Open was once ranked world number three.

He has also had his injury struggles this year with the 29-year-old Austrian collecting just one Singles win this season. A Miami Open quarterfinalist in 2015, this will be the Austrian’s sixth appearance at the tournament and first since 2019.

The tournament director James Blake spoke about the wildcards given to Raducano and Thiem. He said, “Both these players have shown what it takes to win the biggest tournaments in the world, and we look forward to welcoming them to Miami to compete for the title here in a few short week.”
