Former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi has slammed the Pakistan selectors for making his son-in-law Shaheen Shah Afridi the captain of the ODI team. This came in after Pakistan lost the ODI series against Bangladesh 2-1. Speaking on the video posted by him after the game, Shahid Afridi said ‘’All of you in the selection committee have played so much cricket, yet you still don’t seem to have an idea of who should be the captain for which format’’. This was the statement given by Afridi after the series loss.
Shaheen Shah Afridi is currently the captain of the Pakistan ODI team and under his captaincy Pakistan have suffered a series loss. Shahid Afridi also said that they have given their debut to so many people that getting a Pakistan cap has become so easy. He also slammed the PCB chairman and asked him to perform surgery on the selection committee instead of the players.
Pakistan recently suffered a loss in the 2026 WT20 campaign where they could not make it to the semi-finals. Post that debacle there were wholesale changes made in the side with as many as six uncapped players being picked up for the tour of Bangladesh. There have been plenty of players making their debut while senior players like Babar Azam and Saim Ayub had been removed from the squad for this series.

The newly appointed Pakistan selection committee post the 2026 WT20 include Aqib Javed, Sarfaraz Ahmed, Misbah ul Haq and Asad Shafiq. As per reports, PCB chairman has given the full authority to the selectors to make any changes they need. Shahid Afridi has now taken a direct hit against these selectors asking for them to be removed. He made a statement that the selectors have played plenty of matches themselves yet do not understand which player to be made the captain of which format. Shaheen Shah Afridi is currently the captain of Pakistan in the ODI format. While Salman Agha is the T20I captain and Shan Masood has been the Test captain for Pakistan.
