The Delhi Capitals opener Pathum Nissanka has scored a fine half-century to set up the chase for his side. With a total of 226 on board, it was necessary that KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka got off to a flying start. Nissanka wasn't in the starting squad against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and now he has grabbed his opportunity to cement his opening slot for the side. They have delivered a strong start for the Delhi Capitals and they have given the side exactly the start they were looking for.
Pathum Nissanka had the curse of getting out just short of the half-century mark as he was dismissed 3 times, while he was in his 40s. He wasn't giving the Delhi Capitals the most explosive of starts and there was debate about replacing Nissanka. The argument was that both KL Rahul and Pathum are very similar batters and they needed one batter to take the risk in the power play. He has proven his critics wrong with a fine innings and he has clearly set the stage for a massive run chase for the Delhi Capitals.

Strong opening stand with KL Rahul sets platform as Delhi Capitals chase 226 with control
In the 2nd innings of the game, the Delhi Capitals were given the task to chase down a massive total of 226 in the 20 overs. All eyes were on the opening pair of KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka as they had to give their side the best out of the power play. The powerplay bowling of Rajasthan Royals have been clinical in this season as Jofra Archer has picked up several wickets in his first over. Pathum Nissanka was going through a lean patch of form as he looked to be in good touch but the runs weren’t simply coming off his bat. He didn’t play the game against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru and he was confident to make the most out of this match
Pathum Nissanka started off his innings by scoring a couple of boundaries in the first over against Jofra Archer. The first over was enough for Nissanka to show that he is here to stay as not many batters have been able to attack Archer at the very start of the game. He then proceeded to continue his assault against the rest of the bowlers and he put up a fine batting display along with KL Rahul. Pathum Nissanka ended up with a score of 62 off just 33 balls, including 6 fours and 3 sixes, striking at 187.88.
The Delhi Capitals are currently at a comfortable position in the game as they have wickets in hand and don’t need to bat out of their skin to reach the target. They could end their losing streak with this match as KL Rahul seems to be filled with intent to finish the game off for his side.
