Emma Raducanu, the British tennis player, had an injury scare during the round of 16 clash against Danielle Collins at the Strasbourg Open before losing in three sets to her American opponent. In the first set at the Patrice Dominguez Central Court, Raducanu played exemplary tennis, breaking the serve of Collins before clinching it convincingly with a 6-4 margin, putting herself in a strong position to reach the next round of the tournament.

The story of the second set was entirely different as Danielle Collins not only made a roaring comeback, but also pushed Emma Raducanu to her absolute limit. The Briton ended up needing treatment for the back issue sustained after being down 5-0 before returning back to win a game with seemingly no obvious discomfort to her body, but it was far from enough as the second set went the way of Collins with a 6-1 scoreline.

In the third and deciding set, Raducanu was a break down early on, but she came back strongly into the contest before Collins took control. Ultimately, the third set and the match went the way of the American with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 scoreline, underlining her dominance over the Briton, who had her chances, but she couldn’t capitalise on it when the going got tough in the latter stages of the contest.

Before losing to Danielle Collins, Emma Raducanu managed to get the better of world number 16 Daria Kasatkina from Australia in the opening match of the Strasbourg Open in straight sets. The participation of Raducanu in this tournament came just days ahead of the French Open, giving her the best possible preparation for the second grand slam of the year.

Earlier this month, Raducanu made the fourth round of the Italian Open, showcasing that she is getting more familiar with clay courts than ever before in her career.
