It turned out to be a good day of cricket as India finished day one of the fourth Test against England in Manchester at 264 runs for the loss of four wickets. For India, young batters including the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sai Sudharsan shone with respective half-centuries, along with the 46-run knock by KL Rahul as England went past 250 runs on the first day.

Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill gave India a good start as the duo put up an opening partnership of 94 runs. Rahul fell short of his half-century as he got out after scoring 46 runs off 98 balls hitting four boundaries. However, Jaiswal brought up his fifty in 96 balls. This was his 12 fifty in Test cricket and overall eighth 50+ score against England in the longest format. The left-hander got out after scoring 58 runs off 107 balls hitting 10 fours and a six.

England also made a comeback after a good opening start by India as they went on to take three big wickets in the second session. After that, Rishabh Pant and Sai Sudharsan were taking the innings further before Pant (37) suffered a major injury on his foot while facing a yorker by Chris Woakes. The left-hander was taken out of the field in a mini ambulance as he couldn’t even walk on two legs.

After that, Sudharsan went on to complete his maiden Test fifty and got out after scoring 61 runs off 151 balls hitting seven boundaries. By the end of the day, Ravindra Jadeja remained unbeaten on 19*(37) runs while Shardul Thakur scored 19*(36) as India finsihed day one of the Test matches at 264/4. For England, skipper Ben Stokes took two wickets, while Chris Woakes and Liam Dawson scalped a wicket each.
