On the fourth day of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy’s fourth Test in Manchester, England looked dominating in the first session. After playing 133 balls in the opening session, the English side accumulated 125 runs which took their score to 669 runs. Ben Stokes and his men took a 311-run lead following the first innings. Stokes hammered his 14th hundred and put England in a commanding position. Brydon Crase again emerged as a headache for the visitors as the tailender smashed 47 off 54 with five boundaries (three fours and two sixes). Ravindra Jadeja got Carse caught at the hands of Mohammed Siraj, who was deployed at the deep. With the pacer’s dismissal, England’s first innings concluded.
Eyes were set on the reply from Team India batters. Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul were expected to play solid innings from his bat, but the former got dismissed against Chris Woakes without scoring any runs. On the fifth delivery of the innings, Woakes struck India again as he got the better of another southpaw Sai Sudharsan, who went back to the dugout on a duck.
Shubman Gill and KL Rahul did a fine job in pressure situation
In the crunch situation, India required valiant batting efforts from veteran Rahul and skipper Shubman Gill. Both stood at the crease and made the English team toil on the field. In the 39th over of the innings, they completed their 100-run stand. Gill reached his fifty in 77 deliveries, while Rahul also struck his half-century in 141 deliveries.
After the day’s play, India are 174/2 in 63 overs, with Gill amassing an unbeaten 78 off 167, while Rahul scoring an unbeaten 87 off 210. England require eight wickets to win the game and take an unassailable lead of 3-1, while India will look to save themselves from the defeat on fifth and final day in Manchester Test.
