The five-match Test series for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy currently stands 2-1 in favour of England after they won the first and third Test in Leeds and London, respectively. However, they went down against the Shubman Gill-led side by massive 336-run margin at Edgbaston in Birmingham, the fourth Test ended in a draw after the Indian all-rounder pair of Washington Sundar and Ravindra Jadeja fought hard until the last hour with their century knocks.
Although, the home side will hope to continue their domination with a win in the final Test, the visitors too will eye to put up their best show, in order to end the series in a stalemate. With the ongoing fifth Test between England and India currently underway at the Kia Oval in London, the home side have been handed a massive setback as they will be without their star pacer Chris Woakes for the remaining days.
Chris Woakes ruled out of fifth Test with shoulder injury
But prior to day two’s play, England Cricket shared a big update on Chris Woakes while adding that they will miss his services for the remainder of ongoing Test. Notably, the pacer had to leave the field having sustained a suspected shpoulder injury while saving a ball hit to the boundary by Karun Nair at the long-off. In an attempt to save the boundary, Woakes landed awkwardly on his left shoulder and left the field in visible pain.
Earlier after day one’s play, Gus Atkinson also shared an update on Woakes while suggesting that his injury doesn’t look good. "I don't know too much about it, but it doesn't look great. It's a big shame, last game of the series, and when anyone gets injured, it's a shame. I'm hoping it's not too bad, and whatever it is, he'll get full support from everyone," Atkinson said.
