After three thrilling days of cricket in the 4th Test between India and England, the stage was perfectly set for the all-important Day 4 at the Oval. The visitors lost the wicket of Ravindra Jadeja early in the day and the onus was on the experienced duo of captain Virat Kohli and vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane to score some crucial runs for their side.

Rahane came into the innings on the back of an extremely disappointing series so far as he was literally playing to save his Test career. The pressure was visible on the face of the right-handed batsman and he was looking absolutely low on confidence. He was first adjudged LBW after he offered no shot to Chris Woakes' delivery but was saved by DRS. Unfortunately, the luck did not favour him next time as few balls later, he missed a straight one and was trapped in front.

Rahane's poor run of form continues

The Indian vice-captain had a horrific stay at the crease on Day 4 at The Oval where he looked absolutely clueless during his 8-ball duck. The dismissal meant that Rahane's poor run of form continued in the ongoing Test series having registered scores of 5, 1, 61, 18, 10 and 14 prior to this innings.

A total of 109 runs at average of 15.57 is not something that fans were expecting from India's overseas Test specialist batsman. The netizens flooded social media with posts criticizing Rahane as they claimed that it was time for India to drop Rahane for the final Test which would be good for both- the player and the team.

Fans believe that Rahane played his last Test match

Twitterati were quite angry with Rahane's dismissal with the match poised at such a crucial juncture. While Pujara managed to silence his critics with a spectacular fifty, Rahane failed to do something similar as the fans were extremely disappointed with the performance of India's vice-captain.

While some claimed that the 33-year-old needs to take a break from cricket, others opined that it should be his last Test with so many players like Suryakumar Yadav and Hanuma Vihari waiting for their chances.
