In an unfortunate event, former Barcelona forward Carles Perez has been hospitalised in Greece after a fatal dog attack on his groin area. This attack resulted into ruling him out of Aris Thessaloniki’s upcoming Europa Conference League clash. According to local media reports, the 27-year-old Spaniard was trying to separate his dog from another during a scuffle. The incident took place in Thessaloniki, where Pérez is currently on loan from Celta Vigo.

Pérez received treatment at a private hospital in Panorama, a suburb of Thessaloniki. He is currently under observation and will be rested for an indefinite period, ruling him out of his team’s Conference League qualifier against Araz-Naxçıvan PFK. The Spanish midfielder featured in the Greek side’s 2–1 loss to Araz-Nakhchivan in the first leg of the Europa Conference League's second qualifying round. Meanwhile, the club, in its statement on their website, mentioned, "According to the test results, Carles Perez suffered a soft tissue infection from a dog bite."

Carles Perez is trying hard to rejuvenate his career in Thessaloniki

The Catalan-born forward came through Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy and made his senior debut under Ernesto Valverde in 2019. He scored two goals in 13 appearances before moving to Roma—initially on loan and later permanently—where he continued to show promising games. He scored 8 goals by making 75 appearances. Now in Thessaloniki on loan with an option to buy, the Spaniard is looking to revive his career. Although he previously had a loan stint at Getafe, a permanent deal never materialized, and Celta Vigo has been actively looking to transfer him for several months.

The former Barcelona player had only made one appearance for his new club before facing injury. He played the full 90 minutes in Aris’ first-leg defeat to Araz-Naxçıvan. Meanwhile, Thessaloniki manager, Marinos Ouzounidis is looking forward for an alternative solution to Perez for the Conference League qualifier. "Carles would have been in the starting line-up, but this incident happened. We can’t dwell on it any longer. My mind is working on alternative solutions, and we have worked on them,” Mr Ouzounidis said to CBS Sports.
