On Wednesday, June 5, a fan allegedly got scammed after he was randomly assigned to a standard seat after paying top dollar for a premium seat during the India versus Ireland T20 World Cup 2024 Group A clash at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. A freelance cricket journalist broke the news on his official X account, sparking a plethora of reactions on the platform.
According to Peter Della Penna, he met an individual named Jagan Vinyagam, who paid $350 for a premium ticket to watch the Indian cricket team play against Ireland in the T20 World Cup 2024 in New York. But, instead of getting seated in the best seat at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, he was sent to the last row seat at the top of the makeshift facility, which had no shade from the sun.
In a post thread on his X account, Peter Della Penna, the freelance cricket journalist, wrote, “Met Jagan Vinyagam, 48, originally from Chennai but living in NJ for last 20 years. Paid $350 for a "premium" ticket, only to be randomly assigned to last row, top of the stadium, section 247. He feels like he got scammed.”
The journalist also shared the statement from the allegedly scammed fan, who said, “There was no transparency in the ticket buying process. You could only choose the ticket type, standard or premium, but they would not allow you to pick a specific seat or section. I found out where my seats were 2 weeks ago. I feel like I got scammed. People who paid for Standard seats have better views than me for less money.”
“My wife didn't want to come with me today because she saw the seating chart and knew there would be no shade. I take my wife & family to 3 or 4 Mets games a year. My wife doesn't even like baseball but she loves the fan experience at Citi Field because the amenities are great,” Peter Della Penna concluded.
Moreover, India went on to defeat Ireland by eight wickets, chasing down a 97-run target with 46 balls to spare. The captain Rohit Sharma and the vice-captain Hardik Pandya were the stars of the show for the Indian cricket team in this Group A match.
