Before the UFC 279 start, MMA fans were seen howling boos during a minute's silence to pay tribute to Queen Elizabeth II. The promotion paid tribute to the Queen before the pay-per-view in Las Vegas on Saturday night with her picture on the video screen, but fans taunted the silence and broke into a chant of  “USA, USA”.

Later, the UFC also imposed a ban on similar social media comments after fans at the MGM Grand Garden Arena continuously booed during the tribute. Former UFC light-heavyweight and heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier, who was commentating during the pay-per-view, reacted to the incidents and said, "Us Americans are some savages."

Talking about Pay-Per-View, fan favourite Nate Diaz ended his UFC career with a spectacular submission win over Tony Ferguson at UFC 279. In his post-fight interview with Joe Rogan, Diaz talked about how he was looking forward to continuing his dominance in other sports as he ventures out of UFC. Diaz also declared that he was going to show his fellow UFC fighter how to dominate in other combat sports, where many athletes including Conor McGregor have failed to do.

He said, “I want to get out of the UFC for a minute and show all these UFC fighters how to take over and own up another sport, how you're supposed to do it. Conor McGregor didn't know how to do it and none of these other fighters know how to do it.”

“So I'm going to go out there, I'm going to take over another profession and become the best at that... All you mother f*****s out there trying to run other sports, boxing, kickboxing, jiu-jitsu... If you think you're the top! Creme de la creme right here, I'm coming for you. And then [after dominating other sports] I'm going to be right back here to get a mother f*****g UFC title, the best title in the world."
