Cricketing records are meant to be broken but then there are tons of batting scores that have been so good that it may just take individuals a bit of time to overcome those.

Some of the most exceptionally good knocks have come in One-Day contests wherein debutants have just arrived and hit hundreds without much ado.

Such innings have been in aplenty and they deserve much of our attention.

We bring you some of the fastest and most sublime one day tons by debutants:

Fastest and most glorious One-Day debut centuries

Amir Jangoo

In December 2024, newcomer to the West Indies’s ODI team hit a brilliant and audacious 104 off just 83 deliveries, a wonderful effort in which the three figure mark was breached in just 80 odd deliveries.

In so, not only did the new member of the Caribbean team help his unit defeat Bangladesh but also set a world record the fastest ever three figure score in any one-day international.

It became a feat to savour and something the West Indies team really considers epic, and rightly so.

Reeza Hendricks

The fantastically talented South African, who today happens to be an important member of their white-ball cricket set up held the fastest-ever debut ODI century record for some time when he had reached a three figure mark off just 89 deliveries. This had happened in 2018.

But the record was eventually broken over half a decade later by the left handed West Indian Jangoo.

Desmond Haynes (148 off 136)

desmond haynes 148 off 136

Desmond Haynes was back in the day one of the most committed, fearless and audacious stroke makers ever and a one of a kind talent to have entered from the West Indies.

During his one day debut that happened in 1978 against Australia at the Antigua Recreation Ground, the right hander struck a free flowing 148 and scored a fiery debut one day century.

Martin Guptill (122 off 135)

Martin Guptill will always be regarded as one of the biggest hitters in all of New Zealand’s cricketing history and it was in 2009 against the West Indies that he made hit one day debut scoring a fantastic maiden century. He’d also end his inning with 2 sixes at a strike rate of 90.

Matthew Breetzke

It was during February 2025 where young South African batter Matthew Breetzke scored an excellent 150 upon his international debut, which came against the BlackCaps at Lahore in Pakistan during a tri-series.

While he reached his hundred of 128 deliveries, the exceptional batter ended up breaking Haynes’ record for the highest runs scored by an individual on his one day debut.
