As we near the end of the current footballing season, a lot of clubs will be preparing for a busy summer transfer window with lot of expected incomings and outgoings. While FC Barcelona will not be involved in a big overhaul of transfer moves, a few tactical switches seem to be on the cards for the Blaugrana to further strengthen their squad and improve squad depth. And one of these moves is reported to be for Argentine striker Julian Alvarez. Barcelona is supposedly eyeing the 25-year-old as a replacement to the ageing Robert Lewandowski.

The 36-year-old Polish centre-forward joined the club three years ago and has been instrumental in all of its recent successes. His current season has been incredible as well with 40 goals scored so far in 48 games. The veteran striker has replicated his goal-scoring feats from Germany in the Spanish scene as well. However, his age is a factor that is against his side and that also leaves him a little more prone to injuries. Since Barcelona are building a project for the future, they will be looking for a long-time successor to Lewandowski and the name of Julian Alvarez is one that is popping out repeatedly.

Alvarez has already equalled last season’s record at Man City with 32G/A

Alvarez recently moved to Atletico Madrid at the start of current season and has adapted really well to life in Spain and has had a rather successful season under Diego Simeone. With 32G/A so far, he has already equalled his record at Manchester City in the previous season and is well on course to break it soon in the remaining games. While the overall season hasn’t been a great success for Atleti due to the lack of silverware, Simeone will be looking to build an even stronger squad for the coming season.

In such a case, it will be extremely difficult for Barcelona to convince Alvarez to make a switch so early. His big price tag could also be another road block for the Blaugrana as they have been struggling financially in the past few years.
