FC Barcelona recently secured a hard-fought comeback victory against Celta Vigo on April 19, winning 4-3 with a goal in the dying moments of the match. While the performance and results were a big reason for the team and fans to celebrate, the news of Robert Lewandowski’s injury have been concerning for the Blaugrana. The Polish striker suffered a knock during the match and took to the ground, holding his hamstring. Shortly after, he asked to be taken off and was replaced by Gavi in the 78th minute. The 36-year-old had been enjoying a stellar season in Spain with 40 goals till now in 48 games and is also leading the goal-scoring charts in LaLiga.
Hansi Flick was asked about Lewandowski’s injury during the post-match conference and he said that the seriousness of the issue can only be known after certain tests are carried out. And now FC Barcelona has released an official statement about Lewa’s injury, stating that he has a left semitendinosus injury and his return will be determined by his progress. While no official return date is mentioned, a lot of sources have reported that the Polish striker will likely be out for about three weeks.
Barcelona have scored 15 goals in 3 games during Robert Lewandowski’s absence
This means that Lewandowski will miss out on some very important fixtures for Barcelona, including the Copa Del Rey final against Real Madrid scheduled for next weekend and also the Champions League semi-final against Inter Milan. While some reports suggest that Lewandowski might push to be ready for at least the second leg of the Inter tie, Flick will not want to rush Lewa’s recovery process given his age.
However, an encouraging piece of news for Barca fans is the fact that Barcelona has scored 15 goals in the 3 matches that Robert Lewandowski has not played this season. This will come as a relief going into these important matches and will also serve as the opportunity for other players like Ferran Torres, Raphinha and Lamine Yamal to step up and deliver for their team.
