The latest name added to Real Madrid’s injury woes is Uruguayan midfielder Fede Valverde, who has been diagnosed with lumbosciatica (an injury related to the lower back) following tests done on May 25. Valverde participated in Real Madrid’s final game of the season against Real Sociedad on May 24 at the Santiago Bernabeu and played the entire 90 minutes. Following some discomfort after the match, he was administered some tests which confirmed the injury.
The club has said that Valverde is expected to be out for about a week due to the recovery process and should be back in time for the club’s participation in the FIFA Club World Cup. Valverde has been a key figure in Real Madrid’s squad this season, showcasing his amazing versatility by playing in multiple positions across the pitch as required. In 58 games across all competitions, Fede has scored nine goals and has provided eight assists this season. He has also stepped up into a leadership role at the club following the long-term absence of club captain Dani Carvajal and has donned the armband in several matches for Los Blancos.
Real Madrid drawn alongside RB Salzburg, Al Hilal and Pachuca in Club World Cup
The FIFA Club World Cup is set to commence on 15 June 2025 in the United States. Real Madrid is drawn in Group H alongside RB Salzburg, Al Hilal and Pachuca. Their opening fixture of the tournament is against the Saudi outfit Al Hilal on 19 June at the Hard Rock Stadium. With a long list of injuries currently, Madrid will be hoping that their key players recover in time for the upcoming tournament.
Luka Modric, who is set to leave the club at the end of the season, has announced that he will be playing in the Club World Cup for Real Madrid and that will mark his last tournament for Los Blancos. Modric has said that he wants to win the tournament and give a fitting farewell to his long-time suitors.
