Luka Modric’s stint at Real Madrid came to an end after the club concluded their 2024-25 season with the LaLiga 2024-25 game against Real Sociedad at Santiago Bernabeu on May 24. The match ended in Madrid’s favour by 2-0, riding on Kylian Mbappe’s goal. The French player’s scoring broke him into the record books as he became the only player to notch up 30 or more goals in a LaLiga season after legend Lionel Messi. However, Mbappe’s goal wasn’t much talked about after the game as Modric’s farewell became the highlight of the event. Noting the massive occasion, an emotional farewell was inevitable for the veteran, who served the most successful Spanish club for 13 years.

Following the match, the Croatian received guard of honour from players from both sides. The skipper was also honoured with a choreography from supporters in the center circle. However, the scene that grabbed a lot of eyeballs was Modric’s German colleague Toni Kroos’ hug with the 39-year-old. The midfielder also failed to control his emotions and shed tears eventually. Back in 2012, Modric became a part of Madrid and during his 13-year stint, he won several trophies with the club.

Carlo Ancelotti gets emotional on his farewell

Besides Luka Modric, it was Carlo Ancelotti’s last day in the Real Madrid camp as well. The Italian also received tributes from players and supporters. Like Kroos, the 65-year-old also couldn’t control his emotions and was seen in tears eventually. His tenure recorded multiple UEFA Champions League title victories also.

Madrid also registered two LaLiga trophy wins (2021-22 and 2023-24). The veteran will now be seen handling the leadership mantle as Brazil national football team’s coach. Both Modric and Ancelotti left an incredible legacy behind with their unprecedented success and impact.
