Luka Modric will be seen as a Real Madrid player for the last time in Spain in the upcoming game against Real Sociedad at the Santiago Bernabeu on Saturday, May 24. Luka, who has been a part of Madrid since 2012, will leave the club after the FIFA Club World Cup from June 15 to July 13, 2025. He has made a significant contribution to the Spanish club in his 13-year stint. Back in 2012, he became a part of Madrid after serving Tottenham Hotspur for four years. The 39-year-old has appeared in Madrid jersey 590 times and during this period, he has racked up 43 goals for La Liga’s most successful club.
While playing for Real Madrid, the Croatian footballer has won 28 trophies which also include six UEFA Champions League titles. The veteran announced his upcoming exit from Madrid through a social media post. Taking to his Instagram handle, he wrote, "The moment has arrived. The moment I never wanted to come, but that's football, and in life everything has a beginning and an end. I arrived in 2012 with the hope of wearing the jersey of the best team in the world and the ambition to do great things, but I couldn't have imagined what came next."
He also added, “Playing for Real Madrid changed my life as a footballer and as a person. I'm proud to have been part of one of the most successful eras of the best club in history."
Luka Modric's contributions to Real Madrid’s 2024-25 season
Modric contributed two goals and six assists in 34 matches played by Real Madrid in the La Liga 2024-25. Madrid’s title quest concluded in disappointment with the 4-3 defeat against Hansi Flick’s Barcelona in the match held at Estadi Olimpic Lluis Companys on May 11. Luka also featured in Madrid’s 11-members side throughout the Champions League 2024-25. The 15-time title winners campaign came to an end after a 5-3 aggregate loss against Arsenal in the quarter final of the tournament.
