The biggest tournament of the cricketing world, ICC ODI World Cup came to an end with Pat Cummins-led Australia being crowned as the world champions for the sixth time. The hosts for the season had a brilliant run throughout the tournament and despite having a dream run throughout the tournament, the Men in Blue faced a disheartening defeat on the night of the final.
Now as the ICC spectacle has finally ended, players have already made their plans moving forward. While several youngsters will aim for the next tournament, many would take the hard decision of leaving the ODI format, while some others might altogether draw curtains on their international career.
This article talks about five players who might hang up their boots from ODI cricket.
Rohit Sharma
While his efforts fell short in the finale of World Cup 2023, it goes without saying that Indian skipper Rohit Sharma earned applause for his leadership throughout the tournament. Sharma led India from the front and scored a total of 597 runs at an incredible strike rate of 125.95.
However, as Men in Blue lost the finale, Sharma could pass on the baton of captaincy to someone else soon. Despite being in form, the cricketer is now 36 years old and it won’t be surprising if he announces his ODI retirement soon.
