KL Rahul looked stellar for Team India in the third Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy 2025 played at iconic Lord’s in London. The right-handed batter produced a 100-run knock in the first innings. It was his second red-ball hundred at the iconic venue as he smashed his maiden ton on the illustrious ground in 2021. Noting Rahul’s superb batting form, former Team India coach Ravi Shastri has brought attention to the 33-year-old’s tweaked front-foot technique which has made him better as a batter. Shastri hopes that the veteran’s improvement will assist him to taste success in the sport in the upcoming years.
In an interview with ICC Review, Ravi Shastri said, "What I am seeing is a slight adjustment he's made with his front foot, in his stance and while defending. It just opened up a bit, which allows his bat to come through cleanly. Even when he's hitting it towards mid-wicket, it's the full face of the blade." Shastri also said that the new technique closes the face of his bat which diminishes his chances of getting bowled out or leg-before-wicket. "He doesn't need to close the face of the blade, and fall over and get into trouble like he used to in the past. "He would get out leg before, would get out bowled, he would get across too far and then be out leg before as well," added Shastri.
Ravi Shastri feels KL Rahul will establish his dominance from hereon
Ravi Shastri also believes KL Rahul as a batter can start his epoch of dominance from the current point and touch the average close to 50.00. "He's at his prime. He has got to make these next three, four years count. And I see him getting a lot of hundreds because he's playing a lot of cricket in India as well. So whatever that average is, he should be close to 50," said Shastri.
In the current competition against England, Rahul has racked up 375 runs in six innings of three contests at an average of 62.50. He has accumulated two hundreds and fifty from his bat, so far. In his 10-year career, Rahul has never played any Test at Old Trafford in Manchester, and he will look to be at his best while playing his first game at the venue, where India have never won any red-ball match.
