Craig Shakespeare, the former manager of Leicester City, died at the age of 60 on Thursday morning, August 1, while being surrounded by his family, according to the statement released on behalf of them by the League Managers Association. After getting diagnosed with cancer in October of last year, Craig Shakespeare was said to be receiving treatment.

In the 2015-16 season, Craig Shakespeare was the assistant to manager Claudio Ranieri when Leicester City won the Premier League title. He also got the managerial role at Leicester City after the departure of Claudio Ranieri in the summer of 2017, but the club officials relieved him of his duties in October of the same year after a string of poor results.

The Englishman also held a position on the coaching staff of the national team for a brief time in the year 2016.

Leicester City took to their official X account to break the news of Craig Shakespeare’s passing, which read, “It was with heavy hearts that Leicester City Football Club learned of the passing of a beloved member of our family, Craig Shakespeare, at the age of 60.”

The statement from Craig Shakespeare’s family, which was shared by the League Managers Association, read, “Whilst the family are immensely proud of his footballing achievements as both a player and a coach, to us, his family, he will always primarily be a loving and loved husband, father, son, brother and uncle.”

“The loss is devastating to us all and we would ask that privacy be given at this incredibly difficult time as we try to come to terms with, and mourn, the loss of a very special person,” the statement further read.
