The Indian cricket team had a topsy-turvy campaign down under during the five-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) Test series. Although, the results might not have ended in their favour this time around, the team saw a few players make some shocking decisions, like Ravichandran Ashwin’s retirement and Rohit Sharma opting out of the Sydney Test.
Although, there weren’t many talks after R Ashwin’s retirement, Rohit Sharma hogged the limelight after he was seen replacing KL Rahul at the top of the order. Although, the results did not go his way, he was marred with criticism with several speculting it to be his last outing in Test cricket. It is to be noted that Rohit Sharma scored 31 runs across the three Tests, averaging 6.20.

Although the Indian Test skipper opted to sit out for the following Test in Sydney, he further ended the speculation going rife on his retirement, confirming that he is not retiring. But a new report have revealed shocking details behind this, unveiling on what may have happened after India’s Melbourne Test defeat.
According to the latest report, Rohit was stepping down, but was stopped by his well-wishers. "Rohit had made up his mind after MCG. Had his well wishers from the outside didn't force him to change his mind, we could have well seen another retirement in Australia," a report in Times of India quoted a source as saying.
With Rohit taking a u-turn on his retirement, the report further added that head coach Gautam Gambhir wasn’t happy about this move. According to the report, this decision of the 37-year-old “did not sit well” with Gambhir. However, he then opted to sit out of the Sydney Test, and pointed out that he was sensible enough to take his own decisions.
