Italy and Paris Saint Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma and his girlfriend were attacked at their home by robbers on Thursday night. According to police sources, the couple was targeted by several people at their home in Paris between July 20, Thursday and July 21, Friday overnight. Not only this, but the robbers also reportedly stole USD 556,343 worth of jewellery, watches and luxury leather items.
After the robbery, Donnarumma and his interior designer girlfriend Alessia Elefante took refuge in a luxury hotel close to their home around 3:20 am, where they were taken to the hospital by the hotel staff. In addition to this, the hotel staff alarmed the police, after which the Banditry Repression Brigade of the Paris Judicial Police took charge of the investigation.
As BBC quoted Paris prosecutor’s office, "An investigation has been opened on charges of armed robbery in an organised gang and aggravated violence following the events that took place overnight at Mr Donnarumma's place.”
According to reports by Agence France Presse, Donnarumma was lightly injured while his girlfriend was unharmed. The couple has been dating for over four years and has recently returned from a holiday. Donnarumma moved to Paris two years ago on a free transfer after the end of his tenure at AC Milan. The 24-year-old was to join his side on Friday ahead of their pre-season friendly against Le Havre and a tour of Japan and South Korea.
