3. Khashaba Jadhav wins India’s first individual Olympic medal in 1952
India dominated the Olympics with its hockey teams but the country was still awaiting an individual medal at the global sports event, which was finally won by Maharashtrian wrestler Khashaba Jadhav in the 1952 Olympics in Helsinki. After finishing sixth in the previous Olympic event, Jadhav started strong in Finland by defeating Canadian Adrien Poliquin and Leonardo Basurto of Mexico. But two consecutive losses against Rashid Mammadbeyov and gold medallist Shohachi Ishii led to Jadhav winning a bronze, thus earning India's first ever medal at the Olympics.
