With the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 nearing its half-stage mark, the five-time champions, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have been handed another blow as they will now miss the services of Gurjapneet Singh. With the pacer sustaining an injury, which has forced him to miss the remainder of the season, the Yellow Army has roped in South Africa international, Dewald Brevis as his replacement.
Although, not much is known of Gurjapneet’s injury, the MS Dhoni-led side have signed Brevis, who is fondly called “Baby AB”. The Protean international was signed for INR 2.2 Crore despite he getting into the auction for a base price of INR 75 Lakh. The Chennai-based franchise had one overseas slot left and thus opted to rope in the services of Brevis.
CSK signs Dewald Brevis for INR 2.2 Crore
The 21-year-old, who was with Mumbai Indians till IPL 2024, played ten matches. Brevis has been a rising star in franchise cricket, impressing in leagues around the world. In the SA20 2023, Brevis finished as the sixth highest run-scorer with 291 runs at a strike rate of 184.17, helping MI Cape Town to their first title.
Speaking of his records and numbers in T20 cricket, Brevis has played 81 matches, scoring 1,787 runs with his highest score of 162. He made his T20I debut for South Africa in 2023, having played two matches so far.
